Most event planners focuses on concerts, parades, parties, conventions, and special events. You can work for corporations, governments, non-profits or for yourself!

CAREERS
Most of the planning work for events is done prior to the event; however, event planners are required to be on site during the event, to make certain everything goes smoothly. Most positions are full time; however, some may be contract positions. Occasionally, positions are strictly for a particular event. Generally, companies look for a college educated individual to fill the position.

Event Director
An event director is the individual in charge and has several years of experience under their belt. They handle all the administration, including budgets, work with marketing and PR departments, develop themes, select venues and oversee the event. Most have 6 to 12 years of industry experience and can earn $50,000 to $200,000 annually.

Account Executive
An account executive promotes their companies business, works directly with customers on events they wish to hold, and play a large role in assisting with the planning of events. Most are college educated, and have good sales abilities. Pay is generally based on experience and industry contacts.

Marketing & Public Relations
Most event management companies handle their on marketing and pr. These positions publish press releases; generate any brochures, signing, and registration materials and produce advertising for the event. Most are college grads and are very creative. Graphic design backgrounds are sometimes helpful. Pay can be as low as $40,000 and as high as $125,000.

Event Planners
Most event planners responsibilities mirror that of an event director position. They can take charge of an entire event, be responsible for security, food and budget. They need to be intelligent, creative and work well with people. Most are college grads and earn from $40,000 to $100,000 annually. There are many other positions available in the industry, such as catering, human resources, and accounting to name a few.
