Scavenger Hunt Kits and Ideas
Team Building Scavenger Hunts
City Wide Scavenger
Hunt Kit
This is the most popular type of scavenger hunt and works well with
large groups
Each group is broken up into no more than 10 people per team
This type of scavenger hunt will be specifically designed around your
company
and your specific city.
Teams break up into their individual groups and get into volunteers' SUV's or
mini vans.
(you can also use limousines, taxis, motorhomes etc.)
Each team will be given a challenge sheet consisting of various items they
need to collect
such as a discarded cash register receipt from a grocery store
or a paper cup as well
as certain questions that need to be answered
such as the managers name at a specific restaurant.
To prove that they actually went to the restaurant they must collect a
signature from someone at the restaurant and bring back a matchbook, business
card or something with that restaurants' company logo on it or take a photo of
their team in front of that specific restaurant.
(each team will be given a challenge "album" and a collection bag that they
can use to
collect all of their goodies)
They will also be given certain "challenges" that they need to prove with
photographs such as:
Going to a car dealership and taking a photo with as many salespeople they
can at one time
(the more salespeople in their photograph the more points they will get) and
other things such as taking a
photo of their team sitting in and around a grocery store cart or underneath a
United States flag or taking a
photo of their team with a fire chief or police officer or someone that has at
least 4 children or someone
that is wearing a purple shirt etc. These are the most fun types of
challenges.
They will also be asked certain questions
that are specifically designed around your company and city such as:
How much is a car wash at (name of a specific car wash)
How many washing machines are there at (a specific laundry mat)
How many calories are there in a specific cookie at a specific grocery
store
How much is a one year membership at a specific gym
The cost for a customized city scavenger hunt is $200
- $1,000
Price depends on how involved and creative you want your scavenger
hunt to be.

Team Building Scavenger Hunts
Plan Your Own
Scavenger Hunt
Whether you wish to plan a treasure hunt for adults or
children, it is a great way to provide hours of entertainment.
To begin planning a treasure hunt, make a list of items that the
participants need to find. You can come up with a theme
and select items that correspond with that theme, or you can select
random items.
Next, come up with a list of
ground rules, such as forbidding contestants to purchase items from a
nearby store.
Include boundaries. Make it clear whether players may ask neighbors or
people on the street for items for the treasure hunt or whether they can
only use found items. Children must have adult supervision for a
treasure hunt that goes outside of their everyday boundaries, especially
if they are going to interact with other people.
Decide whether you want
participants to compete as individuals or teams. It is best to choose
teams if children are participating in the treasure hunt, so they can
stick together. You may decide to select captains and let them choose
their team members. Children's teams should have adult team leaders.
Hand out the lists, giving one to each player or each team captain. With
each list, provide a pen or a pencil to mark treasure hunt items off the
list as they are obtained.
Inform contestants or team
leaders whether they need to check in after locating each item or after
all the items on the list have been found. If you choose the latter, set
a time limit by which all teams or contestants must return to the point
of origin. If no person or group has collected all of the items on the
list by the end of the time limit, the individual or team with the most
items wins the treasure hunt.
If you prefer a different format
for your treasure hunt, create a treasure map with plenty of clues that
will lead participants to a specific location. Whichever person or team
arrives at the location first, collects the treasure and returns to the
starting point, wins. The treasure can be a wrapped package, which may
only be opened upon reaching the starting point. The winners get to keep
the contents of the treasure.

Photo Scavenger
Hunt
by Claire
Colvin
Looking for a
great bonding activity for your family reunion, youth
retreat or group event?
Try a photo scavenger hunt – it gets people working and laughing together,
requires little equipment and has lots of room for
creativity. All you have to do is divide the group
into even teams and provide each with a camera, roll of
film and a list of pictures.
Then set a time limit, boundries, and a meeting place
and let the fun begin.
The groups
should be of no more than fifteen, and are a great way
to mix people up – let everyone pick one other person
they want to be with, and then mix them up as much as
possible. The key to the hunt is creativity, and the
result is new friends, new memories and some really
great pictures. You can even get someone to drop off the
film for one hour developing and see the shots after
dinner. Here is a list of pictures to get you started, a
list of ten to fifteen pictures should keep people
occupied for a couple of hours. The only rule is that
EVERYONE has to be in each picture (except the person
taking the picture, rotate this job so everyone can
participate). Have Fun!
Scene from a Disney movie (explaining it afterwards is
half the fun!)
Catalog pose
Do exactly what the sign says (any sign can work)
Most creative use of ‘leap-frog'
"I can't believe we all fit in here!"
Picture with a farm animal (in the city, just get
creative)
Get your picture taken with a government official
Everyone wearing someone else's shoes
Working in a fast food restaurant (bonus points if you
get to wear a hat)
Spell something in people – family name, hello, SOS . .
.
