Marriage License:
Both parties must appear in person with identification at the town or city office responsible for marriage licenses where the ceremony will take place.
The actual marriage license is valid for 65 day after issuance. A recent blood test is required for the state of Connecticut.

What Type of Information is required?
Date of the marriage, name, address and telephone number for both the bride and the groom, premarital blood certificates, names of both parents and places of birth along with mothers maiden names.

What if this is a second marriage?
Your divorce must be final in the state where granted. The date of the final decree and the city and state where granted are required.

The Marriage license fee is thirty ($30.00).

Are Blood Tests Required?
Both the bride and groom must have a valid blood test taken by the State of Connecticut. The blood test is valid for 35 days.

Everyone getting married must have a standard blood test for syphilis. In addition, all women under the age of 50 and capable of pregnancy must have a standard test for rubella (German measles) susceptibility. Exempt are women who have proof of immunity in the form of a laboratory report. These tests are provided by licensed physicians, osteopaths, advanced practice registered nurses (APRN), nurse-midwives (LNM) and physician assistants in Connecticut.

If you are not a Connecticut resident, but plan to be wed in CT, then the blood test(s) must be performed by a laboratory registered for premarital testing by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as required under the CLIA ’88 regulations. Alternatively, testing may be performed at the State Health Department Laboratory of the state in which the applicant resides. Blood tests performed in foreign countries other than Canada are not valid. Premarital Certificates of other states are accepted only if the other state has a comparable blood test law.

NOTE:
If you plan to use your married name at work, be sure to have your name changed in Social Security records. This way, you will get credit for all your earnings. It's easy and it's absolutely free. Contact any Social Security office. Look in the telephone book for the address and phone number. You will need documentary evidence showing both your old name and your new name.

**As with any other laws, marriage laws can change so we advise you to check with the county, city, or town clerk.**
